FIBER TECHNICIAN
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conducts on-site installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and testing of various types of high-speed fibre optic systems.
- Troubleshoots and corrects malfunctions using specialized test and diagnostic equipment such as fusion splicer, power meter, OTDR and other related tools
- Makes recommendations for improvements or modifications to correct problems and gain efficiencies
- Performs preventive maintenance on damaged fibres effectively and efficiently
- Read design maps, fibre schematics and basic electronic designs.
- Organize and carry out wiring/cabling documentations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
- Candidate must possess at least a Vocational Diploma/Short Course Certification in Networking/Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Computer or Telecommunications) or any related field.
- 1-year minimum experience in fiber splicing and installation
- Familiar with standards and best practices for premise entry and electronic equipment installation
- Undergone fiber optics certifications and trainings (i.e., FOA CFOT, ETA FOD & FOI) is a plus
- Experience working in a telecommunications or utility industry is a plus
- Good communication skills in the English language
- Experience with structured cabling (Ethernet) and Basic IP Networking is an advantage
- Willing to learn new knowledge and support continuous improvement initiatives driven by the organization.
